Laurence, Ruby’s friend, confidant and father figure, has passed away, and his son Zane has shown up suddenly while she’s still grieving. Zane ran away from home a while ago and hasn’t contacted anyone since. Upon meeting Ruby, he immediately hates her. Zane believes that Ruby was his father’s mistress. She is confused at first by his cold demeanor, but quickly realizes that he has misunderstood the situation. Even while she mourns his father’s loss, she tries to resolve their misunderstanding. Will she be able to get the intractable Zane to change his mind about her?

Ruby, the heroine of this story, is very likeable and interesting. Zane, the hero, takes Alpha to the 'nth' degree, and I do not see any qualities that would make Ruby even consider liking him, much less loving him. He was mean, judgemental, cruel, and hateful. He didn't even have good enough 'reasons' to be this way towards Ruby. What a jerk! The heroine is at fault for not telling the simple truth about her background or virginity (like he would believe the latter, anyway); so they both deserve a soap-opera-slap. The line starts behind me, and Zane gets extra slaps.

The storyline itself was interesting, and I like the author's style of writing. I would have enjoyed this book much more if the hero was the least bit likeable.

Marilyn Shoemaker, the other reviewer of this book so far, has given the plotline in her usually thorough style; so I won't repeat any of the story or give away spoilers. I did want to warn people who don't like cruel men that they might want to find another title by Trish Morey.

A Virgin for The Taking Harlequin comics eBook Trish Morey Megumi Toda Reviews

"A Virgin for the Taking" by Trish Morey is a great Harlequin Presents story.
It's a very strong alpha male character and the heroine is equally strong.
Very well written and if you like to read Harlequin Presents this is a great one.
Ruby is a pearl jewelry designer and Zane is a businessman. They are forced to work together when they each inherit half of a prosperous pearl jewelry business in Broome, Australia. Zane is NOT a nice hero. He is extremely nasty to Ruby, and you really have to wonder why Ruby falls for him. He treats her terribly, believing her to be his deceased father's mistress. This is not Trish Morey's best effort.

Trish Morey previously wrote books on Ruby's sisters - Opal and Sapphire. Those books are "The Italian's Virgin Bride" and "Stolen by the Sheik" respectively. Both of these books are much better than this one. This book deserves two and a half stars. The tree stars are for completing the books on the sisters.
I'm a big fan of Broome pearls from the Indian Ocean, embracing the vast terrain of WA, my favorite state in Australia. And wow! what a puncher of a story.
Fall in love with Ruby in the opening pages with her forever moment fare-welling her beloved mentor, Laurence - estranged father to Zane. She is a very beautiful person. Become intrigued with Zane with his burning memories and fiery estrangement from Laurence. He is a fierce, no holds male.
Many tender moments, poignant triumphs, blazing sparks and a stunning family revelation - a timeless novel. I am so, so glad to have this novel and hope you can too. I'm looking forwards to my winter re-read season. This is in my top 5.
Zane and Ruby's journey to finding happiness was full of road blocks. Mistrust, secrets and a passion so powerful at times it was painful to read.

Zane is returning home to make peace with his father, only to find out that he has passed away and won't get the chance to speak with his father and heal old wounds. Instead, he finds the lovely and beautiful Ruby who he believes was his father's mistress. If that's not enough when his father's will is read, he discovers they will both have to run the Bastiani Pearl Corporation.

The story is set on the beautiful Gold Coast. It is evident that this author has done her research on the countryside and the pearl industry. The reader is taken on the journey of discovering and learning about pearls, design and the business itself.

Zane is a savvy businessman and Ruby a designer. Together they make an incredible team but would they agree? No, because there is mistrust, and way too many secrets between them along with such a powerful attraction they cannot deny. The reader is taken on a journey of discovery, passion and pain, one to be remembered for a long time.

I so enjoyed reading this wonderfully crafted story. I loved the way Trish Morey shows her readers that the power of love can heal all wounds and bring so much joy!
The story is of a young woman and jewellery designer, who along with the son of a pearl farmer inherits the pearl jewellery business in northwest Australia. The son resents the employee's half share.

I would like less emphasis on whether a woman is a virgin or not. The only reason it was important in the context of this story was because the young woman, who must never have ridden a horse, a motorbike or done tree or cliff climbing, was sufficiently intact that when she has a rather loveless coupling it proves to the hero that she was not the mistress of his father as he had previously thought.

The location descriptions were reasonable but I would have liked someone with an Aussie accent - they still say G'day over there - and more of the society around these people. The story was written in 2011 but they make no plans whatsoever for the world recession affecting their business, and jet around the world as though they've never heard of damaging the earth's atmosphere with greenhouse gases.

All in all this was a rather old-fashioned look at life from two narrow viewpoints. I thought the book was an okay read with some good detail and would try another by this author.
I love this author and have purchased all of her books. The writing style is wonderful and the book is a great one to curl up with and read! The characters are well-defined and the plot is easy to follow.
Good could not stop reading
